The West Midlands is an extremely diverse region and continues to be a popular place to live. As the major city in the region, Birmingham is home to 105 schools rated as “Outstanding” by Ofsted, as well as the 14th best university in the UK, the University of Birmingham. It also boasts plenty of family-friendly activities including Cadbury World, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, and the National SEA LIFE Centre.
Outside of Birmingham, the West Midlands has a rich and varied history. Stratford-upon-Avon is the birthplace of William Shakespeare and is home to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Stoke-on-Trent was the centre of pottery making in the UK, whilst Shropshire is home to many pretty market towns including Market Drayton and Whitchurch.
The region also offers much in the way of beautiful countryside including two of the most spectacular places in the UK, the Cotswolds and the Peak District. There are also five Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the West Midlands – the Wye Valley, Shropshire Hills, Cannock Chase, Malvern Hills and parts of the Cotswolds. Ironbridge Gorge is the one UNESCO World Heritage Site in the region.
The West Midlands also has excellent transport links. The West Coast Main Line and the many motorways running through the region connect it to the rest of the UK. It is also home to Birmingham Airport, based in Solihull. Premier League football teams in the West Midlands include Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, whilst the likes of Birmingham City, Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion and Coventry City all play in the Championship.
