Pre-Development Engineer (South West)

Location: South West region 

Reports to: Technical Manager 

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Due to continued expansion, we are recruiting for a Pre-Development Engineer. Reporting to the Technical Manager, the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a pro-active approach to the key responsibilities below: 

• Work with the land, planning and commercial team in the pre-development stages of new projects. 

• The candidate will ideally have experience of geotechnical reports and requirements, drainage and highways design and have awareness of structural engineering. 

• Understanding and application of sewer requisitions (S98). 

• Review technical information and pull together technical reports to enable comprehensive land bids and acquisition packs. 

• Produce constraints plans to enable site layouts to be effectively designed. 

• Produce initial drainage strategy in consultation with external consultants. 

• Manage external consultants across design stages from bid, planning to site working drawings. 

• Review roads and sewers and external works designs to value engineer with a focus on buildability and best value. 

• Competent in reviewing engineering information (levels/cut and fill etc) to ensure minimal cart away/import and most cost-effective design is achieved. 

• Have a strong understanding of utilities and their constraints to ensure the relevant diversions, supplies and costs are understood prior to land/planning bids. 

• Application of utility supply’s/diversion quotes and designs. 

• Attend planning, pre-tender and pre-start meetings as required. 

• Assist the Land and Planning department in facilitating any pro commencement works/surveys to ensure site start dates are met. 

• Contribute towards the creation and management pre development programs. 

 

 

Desirable skills and qualifications: 

• Construction/engineering related further education. 

• Construction/engineering related HNC/HND/Degree. 

• Excellent organisational and administration skills. 

• Ability to self-motivate and work on one’s own initiative as well as part of a team. 

• Ability to prioritise tasks to meet changing business needs, proactive and able to demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities. 

• Reliable with a proactive, personable, hands on and positive approach. 

• Have requisite IT skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook). 

• Full driving licence.
