A team of volunteers from our Severn Valley region, led by managing director Carl Haley, gave the grounds of a Gloucestershire hospice a Spring makeover as part of our ‘Helping Hands’ community support initiative.
It was our second visit to Longfield Community Hospice in Minchinhampton, near Stroud, with Claire Hayward, David Allsopp, James Thomas, Jess Thorne, Peter Mueller and Chris Smith joining Carl to ensure the hospice gardens continue to provide an attractive and welcoming area for patients, visitors and staff.
Helping Hands sees colleagues from Wain Homes volunteer their time to support local charities across the regions where we operate.
Longfield Community Hospice provides free care, 365-days-a-year for adults in Gloucestershire living with a life-limiting illness and offers support for their loved ones and carers. Offering hospice at home, wellbeing centre, counselling and bereavement support services, the charity helped more than 1,630 patients, family members and carers in 2022-23.
Rebecca Cornock, facilities manager at Longfield Community Hospice, said: “Wain Homes colleagues came to volunteer at our hospice and did a fantastic job in our gardens. As a charity we rely very much on our own volunteers as well as team days throughout the year.
“The Wain team made a great start on our gardens now that winter has just about gone. They cleared pathways, dug boarders, swept up the leaves - and there were a lot - spread chippings; basically a very big much-needed tidy-up as everything is now starting to come back to life.
“Our gardens are extremely important here, not just for visitors and patients but for staff as well. We are very lucky to have such a peaceful setting and the gardens are often occupied by people either undertaking an activity with us or simply sitting quietly for a little while.
“The team were lovely, as they always are, and are welcome back anytime. We would definitely recommend the Helping Hands initiative to other organisations and we hope to utilise it again year-on-year.”
